Inverness (Outlander) Tour from Invergordon Cruise Ship Port (Culloden, Clava Cairns) Itinerary
Outlander Tour from Invergordon Cruise Ship Port including Culloden Battlefield and Clava Cairns also visits a number of other locations ensuring that you see the best of the city of Inverness and have a chance for photos, as we pass through on our way to Loch Ness. After another photostop at the side of the loch, we head over the hill for the pretty village of Beauly.
Clava Cairns and Standing Stones
Clava Cairns and Standing Stones are 4,000 years old and are a ritual landscape of fantastic design and spirituality. Outlander fans love Clava, as (like fictional Craigh na Dun) there is a split stone (through which Claire Randall might have tumbled, into 1743). Beltane and Samhain are allegedly the days when the Stones are at their most active.
Culloden Battlefield
Culloden Battlefield, site of the last battle on British soil, stands atop a ridge, four miles from Inverness. Here, Bonnie Prince Charlie’s Jacobite army met a final and chilling end, and the story is well-told in the multi-media centre onsite. There is a shop and a restaurant as well as the exhibitions. We will also take you on a walk on the battlefield, to the Well of the Dead, the Main Cairn and the Clan Fraser Stone, where those fallen clansmen were buried.
Inverness
Inverness has long been known as the capital of the Highlands. It was here that the King of the Picts had his palace in 565 AD. The oldest buildings we now find in Inverness date from the 1500’s and 1600’s. The most significant buildings are probably the Castle, the Town House and the Cathedral – and these can all be visited. Inverness is now the bustling hub of the Highlands, filled with shops, cafes, bars, restaurants, art gallery and museum.
Loch Ness
Loch Ness is the largest lake in the country,by volume. It is 23 miles long, 1.5 miles wide, and nearly 800 feet deep throughout. More than enough water to hide its most famous inhabitant; Nessie! We’ll tell you her stories, even if you don’t glimpse her.
Beauly
Beauly, a pretty market town, was the main settlement for the Lovat Frasers. The ruined priory, dating from the 1200’s, was in the Outlander books, as was Beauly harbour. Beauly is popular with our visitors because it has a wide range of interesting shops and hotels. We also like to give you the chance to visit with some highland cows.
