A red stone built castle of obviously differing ages. The 5 storey old keep with pepper-pot towers and flatter roof is at the right hand end. The middle section is 4 storeys and slate roofed, and the left hand end is two storeys and embattled. There are lawns with gravel drive in front, and a low wall running straight out of the picture towards us.

Eilean Donan Castle on the NC500 Applecross tour is across a very narrow arm of the sea. We are nearly at sea level, and a couple of hundred yards away it is built of grey stone rising from a grassy, rocky outcrop. A Scottish Flag flies on a ground mounted flagpole to the left of the castle. A large mountain clothed in coniferous forest rises behind the castle.

We are standing at one end of a long walled garden along the shore. The sea is midway up the left boundary of the picture. A tall retaining wall rises on the right of the picture. The garden paths stretch straight into the picture and a small knot of people stand on our path, about 100 yards away. Above the retaining wall, and ahead, at the end of the walled garden, are trees.

Dornoch Cathedral on our NC500 the North East day Tour is the main subject. Honey-coloured stone bathed in winter sunlight. A single spire, sporting a golden weathercock, rises into a blue sky. There us a clock on the spire. Trees bare of leaves occupy the foreground, together with an ornate black painted fountain, standing in shade.

The picture is almost wholly a waterfall falling through the roof of Smoo Cave on the NC500 the North West day Tour. A little rock shows around the periphery of the picture, but the delicate pale blue of the waterfall falling into the dark blue of the pool at its foot occupies most of the image.
