Cawdor Castle fills this image, below a cloudless blue sky on the tour that also visits Culloden and Clava. The castle is grey stone, with green lawns in front, some shrubs either side of the small drawbridge, and large trees behind. The 1300s Keep is square and four storeys high with battlements and a pepper-pot tower at each corner. It is only two windows wide on each side. There are four other wings, in front and to each side, all built of matching stone, but dating from the 1600's, 1700's and 1800's. Although organic, the resulting building is pleasingly consistent and attractive.

We are standing beneath a tiny turret, made from carved yellow stone. The underside, which is above our heads, is decoratively worked with delicate semi circles increasing in size as it goes upwards. That is where it meets a square stone, also worked with increasing decorative square trim. The sky is cloudless and the palest of blues.

We stand in a grass filled moat, surrounded by the massive walls and sentry towers of a British Army 1700's artillery fortification. In the far distance ahead of us is a gently rising ridge of land covered with forest and farmland. Above is a blue sky with some white clouds.

The 20 foot tall cylindrical cairn at Culloden dominates this shot taken on the Fort George with Culloden and Clava Tour. A flat grassy field surrounds it, and back right some distance away is the low and unobtusive single-storey visitor centre. There is a hill ridge on the far back right-hand distant horizon. By far the most striking feature in the shot, however, is the vivid double rainbow in the dark sky above the monument.

Two huge, ruined, medieval, flat-topped, cathedral towers in Elgin Cathedral on the Local Dark Deeds Tour. The sky above is quite a strong blue with wisps of white cloud. The stone is predominantly a red sandstone. A ruined wall ties these two towers together, and holds the ruined framework which would originally have held a massive arched window (the largest in the cathedral).

The foreground is a beautifully mown lawn, and most of the rest of the frame is filled with the main buildings of a restored 1200's abbey, in grey stone with slate roofs. The sky is cloudy blue.

The River Ness is on the left, flowing towards us. On the opposite bank is a street of old houses, and 4 different steepled buildings, interspersed at distances upstream. The most distant building on the far bank is Inverness Castle, against the sky. The day is sunny and the sky is mainly blue. On our bank of the river are a line of mature deciduous trees, in leaf, and another street of old houses. There is a shingle bar to our immediate left, in the river.
