Inverness Tours has offered Scottish Highland Tours since 2003, and Outlander Tours based on Diana Gabaldon’s novels since 2007. I met Diana while I managed Culloden Battlefield. I loved the books, and so created a tour based upon Outlander locations and places. Diana generously checked and endorsed the tour content. I took her on a private four-day tour of these sites in 2011, as a result refining our tour further.
In 2013 we started researching and visiting film locations. This was because the TV show was going to be good news for Inverness Tours. We had, therefore, been handpicking a team of expert guides all also committed to the Outlander story. The One Day Inverness Outlander Tour is our signature tour. We visit Culloden Battlefield and Clava Cairns. After lunch,in the afternoon, we take you to a special historical location, where we will entertain you with a weapons demonstration. We end the day in Beauly with a look at the ruined Priory and a visit with some hairy coos. It was, of course, hairy coos that Claire used, to help rescue Jamie from Wentworth Prison.

Sam Heughan and Graham McTavish have written a new book – Clanlands. Why not combine an Outlander Tour with a visit to your own ancestral clanlands for the best kind of emotional journey. One that you will therefore never forget. Your clan tour can often include a look at the castle which was the original seat for the Clan Chief. Because we know some modern day Clan Chiefs it is sometimes possible for you to meet your own chief. We also visit other places of significance, like towns, battle grounds or even hereditary burial grounds. We knew that an international event called “Homecoming Scotland 2009” would create a need for Scottish clan tours from Inverness. As a result we created a whole suite of them. And the Clanlands book – well, we carry a copy of it with us on these tours now, just in case anyone wants to discuss it.
We are often asked for Custom Outlander Tours and love crafting longer journeys. You can add more Outlander, some islands or perhaps even your own Clanlands. A variety of additional Outlander sites can be visited out of Edinburgh (like Glencorse Kirk and Preston Mill). Others lie closer to Glasgow (like Pollock House, Dean Castle and Dunure).
