Dave Fyfe

Dave was raised in the wild and majestic Outer Islands of Scotland and loves nothing more than to share the myths, legends and island folklore that he learnt there as a wee boy:
‘I vividly remember; often being sat around a fire listening to the incomparable island storytellers and historians weaving their magic, while the Atlantic winds battered against the walls and windows protecting us all inside’.

When not sat in front of peat fires listening to Scotland’s folklore, Dave and his family would be out and about exploring miles of sandy beaches with their turquoise waters, playing in rock-pools providing endless contributions to their imaginations, or delving deep into the heather and bluebell strewn island’s interior as they went on long walks around the innumerable Lochs.

At age 16, Dave left home to seek his fortune (and trees!) in 1990; being lucky enough to be accepted into the Royal Air Force, to travel extensively, and to be given some fantastic opportunities, whilst also having lots of adventures involving anything to do with outdoor pursuits.

‘Despite having travelled all over the world though, I had always intended to come back to what I knew for me was the best country in the world. So in 2003, my wife Suzy and I made the best decision ever and decided to move back to Scotland, from the east coast of England’.

Dave Fyfe is an awesome guide Our group of four had a fantastic day exploring Inverness and the Highlands with Dave Fyfe from Inverness Tours (invernesstours.com). Dave is a natural storyteller — he wove history, folklore, and personal anecdotes into every stop, so nothing felt like a recited fact sheet. Whether it was clan battles, local legends, or quieter corners of Highland history, he always had a great story ready. His knowledge of the area was genuinely impressive, going well beyond what you'd find in a guidebook, and he was happy to dig into anything we were curious about. The whole day felt less like a scripted tour and more like spending time with a knowledgeable friend who knew every hidden gem in the Highlands. We'd highly recommend Dave and Inverness Tours for anyone wanting a private tour that's informative, personal, and genuinely fun.

Excellent 6-Day Tour with Ali Wilson! My husband and I took a fantastic six-day tour with Ali Wilson of Inverness Tours in May 2026! It was our first visit to Scotland and, based on past travels, we knew a private guide & driver would let us enjoy the trip more. Laura, one of the owners, was a big help with planning; she took our interests into account and suggested a reasonable itinerary built around our priorities. From the moment Ali picked us up in Edinburgh, we knew we were in good hands. She was friendly, punctual, knowledgeable, and funny. In a pleasant surprise, she turned out to be as into birding as my husband—a few hours in, she spotted a sea eagle along the A9 (quite rare for the area) and taught us the local tradition of calling out "Barn door!" when you see one, for the wingspan. We visited so many wonderful places—Inverness, Cairngorms National Park, Gordon Castle for the Highland Games, Clava Cairns, Culloden, Loch Ness, Boleskine House, and the Isle of Skye. One of our favorite experiences was an off-the-beaten-path suggestion from Laura: a living-history presentation of traditional plaid and Highland weapons by Dave & Suzi in Inverness. Ali made the most of our time in the Highlands. She navigated the single-track roads with ease, provided wonderful commentary along the way, and always knew how to find great stops away from the crowds. We're already planning a return trip to see the areas we missed, and we will absolutely book Ali and Inverness Tours again!

Clan Cameron Tour My father, sister and I did a Clan Cameron tour with Dave in September of 2025, and we still talk about what an unbelievable experience it was! Dave was truly an incredible guide. He has an impressive depth of knowledge, is a gifted storyteller, and kept us entertained the entire time. It was a day we will never forget. I would recommend Inverness Tours and Dave to anyone and everyone.

Amazing tour of Mackay Country! I wanted to write to you to tell you what an amazing time we had on our Clan Mackay tour! It was a fun-filled 2 days of beautiful scenery and history and Dave was the best guide we could have imagined. Communication was great, Dave was an incredible driver with mad backing-into-spaces skillz, a friendly and informative host who taught us so many things about Scottish history and culture, and who had planned the perfect trip. When I mentioned how much I wanted to see the ocean up close (this after our trip to the amazing Smoo caves), he added a quick detour to take us to a beach for a short walk in the ocean! My husband (the Mackay in the family) was especially happy to learn all the detail about Clan Mackay and the Sutherland Clearances (boo! hiss!). Dave even managed to find us a place on the way to Strathnaver to stop for some Mackie's ice cream, after my husband mentioned the company's jams, which we can get here in Canada. Despite Dave's clear love of his job, depth of knowledge about everything Scotland, from history to geography to botany and beyond, and the enjoyment he takes sharing Scotland with visitors, what impressed me the most about him and what I most want to share with you was his sheer genuine kindness and niceness and thoughtfulness. As we were driving along one of the one-lane roads with the passing places, we met a van coming towards us, clearly being driven by a tourist, who misunderstood the way passing places worked. The van crossed the lane to pull into the passing place, which was on our side of the road and not theirs. As we passed them, Dave stopped, rolled down his window, and with a smile and a very friendly face and voice, kindly explained to the clearly nervous tourist how passing places worked. So many people would have just passed, maybe with a head shake and complaints to everyone in the car about the other person's mistake; Dave took the time to help out the person and make the road safer for everyone.

Private Munro Clan Tour With Dave Fyfe We cannot give enough praise or recommendation to Inverness Tours and their tour guide Dave Fyfe. Dave was fun, funny, timely and a literal font of educational knowledge. Dave filled in the blanks from our deep dive into family geneology by setting our feet on the very spots and landmarks that we had only read about. He came well prepared with stories, history and anecdotes of our ancestral Scottish clan and he went out of his way to make our day memorable and comfortable. We highly recommend Inverness Tours and we look forward to our next trip to Scotland.....thank you Dave!!

Dave’s car is the seven-passenger Ford Tourneo Custom. With reclining leather seats, privacy glass windows and air conditioning throughout – this ensures touring in comfort and style.
