Wonderful Outlander tour with Laura Our family of 7 (6 adults and a tween) greatly enjoyed our private Outlander tour with Laura Moon while docked at Invergordon on the Crown Princess. Laura was an amazing guide and we learned so much about Scotland while spending the day with her. She told great stories and was so informative. We visited several sights that were in the spirit of Outlander but Culloden battle field was our favorite stop. It is very moving and Laura gave us a lot of information but also let us explore on our own.Laura really paid attention to our group's interests and offered several options for our tour during the day, even fitting in a shopping stop in Beauly. I really felt like we had made a new friend in Laura by the end of the day. I would highly recommend Inverness Day Tours and Laura Moon.

Wonerful Tour Rich in History Our family did a day trip from a cruise ship out of Invergorden in June of 2019. The folks at InvernessTours.com were prompt and helpful in securing the perfect itinerary. Our guide, Ian, was great and a wealth of local knowledge. We took a boat ride down the Loch and visited the famous Urquhart Castle. We then was visited the Clava Cairn which figures prominently in the Highlander Series. Loads of photo opportunities there, despite how 'cheesy' they might be. We then had a quick lunch at Culloden and an in depth history of the battle and tour of the grounds. Overall, it was a wonderful day and I would highly recommend this company to anyone visiting the Scottish Highlands.

Over-The-Moon Mackintosh Clan Tour with Laura Moon My wife and I were celebrating our 40th Anniversary with a 15 day Transatlantic Cruise on Celebrity which ended up in Dublin. We took the opportunity to visit Scotland to find my Mackintosh heritage and booked a Mackintosh Clan tour with Inverness Day Tours. We had read good things online and thought we would try it. Hugh Allison was awesome in responding quickly and thoroughly to all my questions online, suggested the Bunchrew House as the perfect hotel, and divinely set us up with Laura Moon as our guide. Laura arrived right on time and had a wonderful day already planned for us. She was actually early, well prepared and researched, and my wife loved her professional, yet fashionable appearance. She let us add a shopping stop and a couple of other tweaks and we were ready to begin our adventure. The car was incredibly comfortable. She had a speaker device so that when she talked in the front seat, she was amplified and we could hear her perfectly in the back seat! Very clever!Even with all the bells and whistles of the transatlantic cruise (which was awesome), Laura's tour was the highlight of our trip. Not only did Laura Moon take us to the perfect spots, she had a whole storyline which she delivered as one of the most entertaining and informative story-telling that I have ever seen (and we lived and performed in NYC)! Her delivery was immersive and mesmerizing! Laura's tour of the Battlefield of Culloden was incredibly moving and led to the unveiling of key points of my Mackintosh history. But she would not give it away! She intentionally and most cleverly took us through the amazing back story to reveal one of the most poignant and tear-filled moments of our entire 18 day trip. Again, her well-timed and expertly-crafted delivery led to a beautiful climax of the entire story at the Marker where my ancestors gave their lives for their freedom. Unbelievable. The whole day was amazing. Do not hesitate to book this tour. And if you are fortunate enough to have Laura as your guide, it will be life-changing. I feel that my wife and I not only met an incredible story-teller, but made a new friend and a kindred spirit. We are "over the moon" for Laura Moon! Thank you Laura!

Dave was outstanding We disembarked from our cruise ship in Invergordon and greeted at the pier by Dave Fyfe in his kilt and van. We did not have to wait for him. He spent the day showing us the Culloden battlefield, standing stones, a distillery tour, and ruins. He was highly knowledgeable and greatly entertaining. I can recommend him without any hesitation. He made our port stop very memorable. I'm sure Inverness Tours has other guides who are just as entertaining but Dave was personable and made the all-day tour flow smoothly. If you are an Outlander fan, you will be happy with his commentary.

Outlander tour with Dave We had a terrific day. Dave was a very good and kind guide. Even my 85 year old mum was able to follow him (her native language being Dutch)Dave had great knowledge of Scottish history. We were on an Outlander tour of one day. I was the only Outlander fan, but it was interesting to us all. (Mum, husband and me)We were driven around in a brand new minivan.Dave met us at the cruiseship in Invergordon and saw to it that we were back at the ship in time.I would love to do another tour sometime.

"Wonderful tour and great guide We booked a day tour with Inverness Day tours in July. It was a pick up from our cruise ship. Our guide Scott Guthrie was the best. I highly recommend him. He went out of his way to make sure we had a wonderful time. Very knowledgeable and so interesting. We went on 6 or 7 tours on this cruise and he was by far the guide that we liked best. Anyone taking this tour should request him. Our only disappointment was that he could have been our tour guide from Glascow and Edinborough but we didn't know that. Nobody's fault just not enough research on our end. We had such a great time with him and he was a great sport taking pictures with us.

Outlander Tour We booked this tour for 6 instead of a big bus tour with our cruise. Our guide, Hugh Allison, was beyond amazing. First off, if you are a fan of the Outlander books by Diana Gabaldon, you will really appreciate Hugh's knowledge and the fact that he took Diana on tours and helped her with research. If you enjoy history, he knows so much about the clans and Culloden battlefield. The whole day was wonderful and packed with great info and stories. Hugh was one of the best guides I have ever had. If I ever have the chance to return to Inverness I would definitely see about another tour with him as our guide.

Ullapool History

The Ullapool that we see today dates mainly from 1788. The British Fisheries Society determined upon this site for a new planned town and port. So they engaged the famous civil engineer Thomas Telford and David Aitken, and the trim grid pattern streets of tidy white cottages is the result. The village centrepiece is the Fowler Memorial Clock. Sir John Fowler, local landowner and eminent engineer lived close by at Braemore. An appreciative local population erected the clock to commemorate the loss of John Fowler’s sons and grandson, killed in action. It is an attractive clock and as a result is said to be the most photographed in the Highlands.

Ullapool - Ullapool Cruise Port Tours

What does Ullapool mean?

In keeping with many areas of the west coast, this area of Wester Ross was occupied by the Vikings around the 800’s AD. The name Ullapool is because this place was originally “Olaf’s Bol” or “Olaf’s Bol-Stadr” meaning Olaf’s Farm Steading.

What is Ullapool famous for?

Ullapool has long been famous as one of the main ferry ports or jumping off points for the Outer Hebrides. The ferry to Stornoway runs from here and so the town always has a bustle about it. Back in the 1970’s Ullapool was most unusual in that it was generally possible to see up to seventy huge eastern bloc factory fishing ships (called Klondykers) moored in Loch Broom; and this was long before the end of the cold war.

Ullapool Cruise Port Custom Tours

If you wish to see and do other things while in Ullapool we can accommodate that too. We can build a custom tour adding any other places, activities or experiences for you.
