A tailored tour to Loch Ness, Culloden and Clava picking you up from Inverness area accommodation or arrival point and offering a truly fine day-tour encompassing the beauty of Loch Ness and tragedy of Culloden. You choose your detailed itinerary which can include a Loch Ness cruise, the Loch Ness 2000 exhibition, Urquhart Castle and many other local attractions. In the afternoon we take you to one of the Scottish mainland's finest prehistoric monuments and the site of the last major battle on British soil.
The tour commences with an approach to world-famous Loch Ness, where your guide will explain the creation of the Great Glen, that massive valley running from coast to coast across the Highlands. You will see the Caledonian Canal, and then the "Loch" itself.
You will hear plenty on the historical background to Nessie, and the methods used to try to explain the mystery of the beast.
Lunch may be in the charming village of Drumnadrochit or at Culloden Battlefield after you head through Inverness, by a different route, east to Clava and Culloden. You get a personal guided walk at the prehistoric Bronze Age site known as Balnuaran of Clava, or more commonly Clava Cairns. This site is also mentioned in the Outlander books. There is a large Visitor Centre at Culloden with many fine exhibits, free to members of the National Trust. Walks upon the battlefield itself are free to all. Three of our guides have all previously worked for the National Trust for Scotland at Culloden.
Our guides entertaingly present the Loch Ness story with authority and inside knowledge, and also have a great understanding of the region's Jacobite and prehistoric monuments.
If your itinerary will permit you to take an all day tour, then this really does combine so many aspects of Highland history and culture.
